Blicks River Guardians is a community group of local landholders and other residents dedicated to protecting the Blicks River Catchment in northern NSW, Australia. The Blicks River flows into the Clarence River via the Nymboida River. Our gallery pages show the great natural beauty of this area, close to the Mt Hyland World Heritage Area (WHA) which forms part of the New England Group of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia WHA.

The photograph above is of the first gathering of concerned residents at the Dundurrabin Community Centre on Sunday, 7th July, 2013. A representative from Dorrigo Environment Watch brought large maps for us to scrutinise to see if our properties were within the newly increased exploration zone. After an afternoon of discussions the "Blicks River Guardians" group was formed. The mining company's project, "The Blicks Project", covers an area from Glen Fernaigh to Billy's Creek and includes parts of Billy's Creek, Dundurrabin, Tyringham and Glen Fernaigh.

Since our inception we have set up a Facebook page and attended many local markets to advise the Dorrigo Plateau and beyond of this new potential threat to the clean water that flows down to the Clarence River and is currently piped from the Nymboida River to Coffs Harbour. We have become a sub-group of Dorrigo Environment Watch and together hope to combine our resources to "preserve and promote the environmental, economic and social integrity of the Dorrigo Plateau and its waterways". Our numbers have grown since our first meeting and the support for the idea that Dorrigo Plateau be declared off-limits to mining exploration has resonated here as in so many areas with valuable wilderness and prime agricultural land.

The map below gives you an idea of the countryside where we live. We have very heavy rainfall over Summer and our creeks and rivers overflow at this time. The map is interactive to allow you to zoom in or out to see our area of concern. For maps of the exploration licenses click here. This will take you to the "Maps" tab on this website.
